Cupping Therapy: is an "ancient medical treatment that relies upon creating a local suction to mobilise blood flow in order to promote healing".
Suction is created using a mechanical device (a hand or an electrical pump)and is used along a lubricating agent (baby-oil) over skin. The use of Cupping Therapy has been a part of most cultures of the world.
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) cupping is used to dispel stagnation-stagnant blood and lymph, thereby improving qi(energy) flow-to treat pain and respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia and bronchitis. Cupping also is used on back, neck, shoulder and other musculoskeletal conditions. Cupping can be performed on any day of the year. Most people return to normal activity instantly;we will inform you if any precautions need to be taken.
Cupping Therapy is not performed on infants, the frail (and very elderly), metastatic disease, fractures, on tendon insertions, active psoriasis. Cautions need to be taken when practicing on patients on blood thinning medications such as (warfarin etc), patients with bleeding disorders (e.g. haemophilia) or pregnant patients.
